Phyllis Calderon, Founder/Owner/Educator/Author/Recording Artist

Mrs. Phyllis Calderon is a violinist, pianist, educator, composer, author, and founder of A Touch of Classical Plus–Calderon Music Studio (ATCP), established in 1999. Passionate about cultivating confidence, creativity, and purpose-driven artistry, she provides high-quality music instruction to students ages 3 through adult while partnering with homeschool groups, schools, and arts organizations to develop or enhance music programming. As a performer, Mrs. Calderon enjoys chamber music and musical theater and currently serves as a worship violinist and keyboardist at Vineyard Church of Hyde Park. She also enjoys producing concerts, writing, and public speaking. In June 2022, she fulfilled a longtime dream of becoming a published author with the release of her book, Stop Sitting and Stand. Anya Brumfield, Violinist & String Orchestra Teaching Artist

Anya Brumfield is an emerging violin artist in Chicago. She received her Bachelor's degree in violin performance from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University in 2020. Some of her previous instructors include teaching artist Addison Teng and string pedagogue Mimi Zweig. In the Spring of 2022, Anya became a member of D-Composed, an all-black chamber collective that aims to celebrate blackness through the lens of classical musicians. As a freelance musician, Anya enjoys performing a variety of musical styles. She has been blessed to share the stage with a variety of artists, including Arthur Verocai, Ms. Lauryn Hill, and Sigur Rós.


Rodney Gibson, Guitar Teaching Artist

Rodney Gipson joins ATCP as a guitar instructor, helping students build a strong foundation in technique, music reading, and performance. Whether beginners or advanced students, they receive thoughtful, step-by-step instruction tailored to their pace. A Chicago-based pianist, guitarist, composer, and producer, Rodney is the CEO of Audible Edge Music, a label producing traditional jazz, Neo Soul, and Afrobeats. He has performed at notable venues throughout Chicago and beyond, and continues to create multidisciplinary projects that blend music, visual art, and community storytelling.
